Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what data Skillfora collects, why, how it is stored, and your rights. We have written it to be readable rather than evasive — if anything is unclear, email support@skillfora.com.

1. Data we collect

Account data. Full name, email address, phone number, country, profile picture, password (hashed and never visible to us in plain text), and — for instructors — biographical information, qualifications, languages, subject areas, and pricing.

Session data. Booking history, session schedules, lesson pack content, chat messages, payment transactions, and (where recording is enabled) session recordings, including video, audio, and screen-shared content.

Technical data. IP address, device and browser information, log data, and usage analytics collected through Google Analytics.

Payment data. Payment is processed by our third-party payment gateway. We do not store full credit/debit card numbers or bank credentials. We retain transaction IDs, payment amounts, and currency.

2. How we use your data

• To deliver the service — creating accounts, processing bookings, enabling video sessions and recording, paying out instructors.
• To resolve disputes and enforce our policies.
• To improve the Platform, fix bugs, and develop new features.
• To send service notifications and, with your consent, marketing communications.
• To comply with applicable law, including responses to lawful requests from authorities.

3. Session recordings

Sessions on Skillfora may be recorded to the cloud. The student decides whether a session is recorded — they make this choice at the time of booking. The instructor does not control this decision. Students should make this choice before checkout; once a session has started, the recording status is fixed.

When a session is being recorded, both parties will see a "● Recording" indicator throughout the session. If the student did not enable recording at checkout, no recording is made.

For recorded sessions:

• Recordings are accessible to the student, the instructor, and Skillfora's authorised platform administrators.
• Recordings are stored indefinitely for purposes of quality assurance, dispute resolution, and learner review, except as set out below.
• A student may request deletion of a session recording from their account dashboard. Once a recording is deleted at the student's request, no refund or dispute claim can be made for that session, because the primary evidence is no longer available.
• Instructors cannot request deletion of session recordings, as recordings serve as evidence of services rendered and may be required for dispute resolution.
• We may retain a recording beyond a deletion request if legally required (for example, an active investigation, court order, or pending dispute).

4. How your data is stored and processed

Skillfora is a cloud-hosted platform. Your data is stored and processed using established third-party infrastructure providers, which may include data centres outside your country of residence. By using the Platform you consent to international data transfer.

The categories of third-party services we rely on are:

• Cloud hosting and storage providers — for application hosting, our database, and file storage including session recordings. We choose providers that maintain industry-recognised security certifications (such as ISO 27001 and SOC 2), encryption of data at rest, network isolation, and audited access controls.
• Real-time video infrastructure — for delivering live one-on-one sessions and, where enabled, cloud recording. Video streams are transmitted over encrypted connections.
• Payment gateway — for processing payments. We do not store full card numbers or bank credentials; the gateway handles that under PCI-DSS or equivalent standards.
• Analytics provider — for anonymised usage analytics. You can disable analytics through our cookie banner at any time.

We require all third-party providers to maintain industry-standard security practices and to use your data only for the purposes of providing their service to us. We do not sell your personal data to third parties for advertising or any other purpose.

We may change individual providers from time to time as the platform evolves. Such changes do not require an update to this Privacy Policy as long as the categories above remain accurate.

5. Your rights

You may at any time:

• View and update your profile data through your account settings.
• Request a copy of the data we hold about you by emailing support@skillfora.com.
• Request deletion of your account. We will delete your profile data within 30 days of request, except where we are legally required to retain it (e.g., financial records, ongoing disputes, tax records). Session recordings will follow the rules in Section 3.
• Withdraw consent for marketing communications by clicking unsubscribe in any marketing email.

6. Data security

We use HTTPS/TLS encryption for data in transit, encryption at rest provided by our cloud infrastructure, role-based access controls, and audit logging. No system is perfectly secure; we will notify affected users in the event of a data breach affecting their personal information, in line with our legal obligations.

7. Children

The Platform is intended for users aged 13 and over. If you believe a user under 13 has registered, please email support@skillfora.com and we will remove the account.

8. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email and through an in-Platform notice at least 14 days before they take effect.
